Sturgeon Ventures is a Partnership, Founded in 1998 as a single family office.
The Partners love of being involved in the growth and nurturing of private company investments led to the creation of an incubator. Initially there was no sector focus; in 1999 some sectors took the lead focus. These included financial services and well-being.
Sturgeon Ventures is the most established Regulatory Incubator known by some as a Regulated Umbrella or Hosting Platform or Regulated Hosting firm.
Sturgeon Ventures has incubated people and firms since 1999.
Sturgeon Ventures has been a family office wealth advisor since 1998.
Incubation allows a firm to build a track record, competency and business process whilst achieving critical mass.
A Sturgeon’s egg is the size of a mustard seed. With the right nurturing it will hatch, grow to more than fifteen feet long, weigh over a ton and live for at least two hundred years.

Appointed Representative (AR) Firms Are Not Clients of the Principal — They Are Extensions of the Principal’s Regulatory Permissions
Contrary to common misconceptions, Appointed Representative (AR) firms are not clients of the Principal Firm. In fact, the relationship is structurally the reverse. ARs operate within the regulatory permissions of the Principal, making the Principal legally and regulatorily responsible for the activities of the AR.
This distinction is what makes Sturgeon Ventures such a pivotal brand in the regulatory incubator space. Their ARs are not external clients—they are ventures operating under the Sturgeon regulatory umbrella, benefiting from its permissions, compliance infrastructure, and ongoing oversight.
From a regulatory standpoint, the clients of the AR firm are actually considered clients of the Principal Firm. This has important implications:
The Principal provides ongoing compliance oversight, ensuring the AR firm operates within FCA rules and the scope of agreed permissions.
Client onboarding, suitability assessments, and advice delivered by an AR must comply with the Principal’s policies and procedures.
The Principal is accountable to the FCA for the AR’s conduct, systems, controls, and risk management.
